Okay...So Maybe I'm A Fanboy?!?
Supernatural
One of my favorite series, an action packed tale of two
brothers hunting down ghosts and monsters, Supernatural is a “horror/action”
show on the CW that has been running for 8 seasons.
Created by Erick Kripke, Supernatural follows the brothers Sam and
Dean Winchester. The two go around the country, hunting down ghosts and
monsters, and attempting to save as many people as possible as they go on their
way.
Initially, the two are on the hunt for the creature, which they
later find out to be a demon, who killed their mother when they were children.
Sam’s fiance is also killed in a similar manner, giving him the push he needs
to go with his brother Dean.
The first two seasons focus on the brothers trying to survive from
an onslaught of demons who are attempting to kill them. They find out the
identity of Azazel, The Yellow Eyed Demon that killed their mother. They also
have to try to retrieve a magical gun known as the Colt, which can kill
anything. (So we think) Dean almost dies and their father gives up his life to
keep Dean alive.
Moving into season 2, we find out that Azazel is actually
recruiting people with special abilities, given to them by an injection of
Demonic Blood from when they were babies. Sam, being one of these people, is
kidnapped by Azazel. Azazel gathers up the surviving members of the kids he
infected 21 years ago, and pits them against eachother in an abandoned ghost
town.
Unfortunately Dean arrives to save Sam, just in time to see Sam
killed by Jake, another of the psychics. Jake and Azazel escape, and Dean is
left to drag his brother’s lifeless body back to a hotel.
Desperate and distraught, Dean goes to a crossroads demon, begging
the demon to bring Sam back to life. The demon agrees to bring Sam back, but
only if Dean dies in a year instead of ten, and if he promises that he won’t
try to back out of his deal. Dean agrees and rushes back to find Sam alive.
Bobby joins up with them and they set out to find Azazel. They
kill both Jake and Azazel, but not before the duo opens the hell gate, releasing
thousands of demons. They brothers manage to escape the demon swarm and the 2nd
season leaves off with Dean having a year left to live.
Season 3 picks up with Sam and Dean going country wide (again)
solving cases and hunting normal ghosts and monsters yet again. With the intervening
of a few demons, it’s a pretty standard season. The demons Ruby and Lilith are introduced
and the FBI is constantly after the two brothers. Due to the 2008 writers’
strike, the season was cut short and the season ends with Dean being killed by
a hellhound. In the final scene we see Dean being tortured in Hell.
In the beginning of season 4 Dean is brought back from hell. They
come to find out that an angel named Castiel was responsible for rescuing Dean.
The season follows Sam down his dark road using his demonic abilities, while
Dean takes on the responsibility of helping the angels save 66 seals from being
broken. It ends with Sam killing Lilith, who is the final seal, releasing
Lucifer and ushering
the apocalypse.
Season 5 covers the brothers learning that they are the vessels of
Michael and Lucifer, destined to fight eachother to the death. The two rail
against their fates, and take it into their own hands, fighting both angels and
demons. In the end, Sam is taken over by Lucifer, and Dean uses the rings from
the four horsemen of the apocalypse to throw Sam/Lucifer and Michael into hell.
This was originally rumored to be the series finale. At the end of the episode,
we see that Dean has settled down with an old flame, and Sam is standing
outside his window, watching.
Season 6 covers Castiel’s downfall, as he tries to obtain the
souls of all the monsters in purgatory to become the new “God.” Also, they find
out that Sam has lost his soul to the pit, and there is a major focus on
getting his soul back. In the end, it leaves his mind shattered. Castiel
becomes a mutated angel after absorbing all of the souls, and goes to end civil
war in heaven.
Season 7 is mainly focused on ancient monsters known as Leviathan
escaping from Castiel’s body. They attempt to take over the world, turning the
human population into cattle free to munch on, and kill off all other monster
competition. Castiel rejoins Sam and Dean, and heals Sam’s mind, corrupting his
in the process. In the end Dean kills the leader of the Leviathan, and him and
Castiel are Teleported to Purgatory.
Watch Idgits! |
Season 8... is on Tv. Go watch it ya Idgits!
A little extra...sadly, there is a lot of..uhuhmm.. brotherly love
jokes and fanfics that have arisen from the series. Apparently there is a loyal
following, although that’s just not my thing. They even work some jokes into
the series, making fun of the fact that there are gay fanfics of the brothers. But
hey, if you can’t laugh at yourself and all...
